In September, The Stillwater High School Pioneers had a slow start in volleyball and softball, but football and cross country have been the bright spots when it comes to the fall sports so far.
Starting off on the court, volleyball lost to Mustang High School 3-0 on Monday, making their record 10-15 on the year. Freshman Sloane Rattay leads the team in kills per set with 3.5 and freshman Julianna Thornton leads the team in total kills with 144. Senior Abby Terantino leads the team in digs per set with 4.5 and in total digs with 45 on the season. They finish off the month with two away matches, one against Edmond North on Tuesday night and against Moore High School Thursday night.
On the diamond, softball lost 4-1 to Bethany Friday night, making their record 11-15 on the year. They’re on a three-game losing streak after losing to Chotcaw 8-0 and Enid 1-0. Their last victory was against Norman North, a nail-biter where they won 9-8 in enemy territory. The team returns to action on Tuesday as they play a double header against Lawton High School, then host OKC Broncos Thursday night, double header against Claremore Saturday and Sunday, as well as hosting Enid on Monday.
Pioneer football has a good start to their season as they’re 2-1 on the year. They won their first two games as they beat Union 36-35 in overtime. Senior running back Shaydon Green led the way as he had 112 yards on 23 carries. They also beat Enid 38-23 for their second win of the season. Senior Quarterback Mason Schubert had a great showing, as he had 320 total yards and five total touchdowns. Sophomore receiver Dakon Jones hauled in 11 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Their last game, they got shut out by Carl Albert as they lost 30-0 at home, as the offense could not get anything going. Their next game is Friday night as they take on host Lawton Eisenhower High School at seven.
As for cross country, they have participated in four meets so far this season. They had two in August as they went to Deer Creek and Carl Albert High schools, and they also went to Moore and Edmond Santa Fe in September. They have one more meet this month as they run in the OSU Jamboree Saturday morning at seven.
