Holiday fandom trivia for teens Dec. 13
💡By Emily States The Stillwater Public Library is holding a trivia program for teens in grades 6-12 on Friday, Dec.
The Stillwater Public Library’s (SPL) 2024 summer reading program wraps up at the end of next week, with the last day to enter reading time on Saturday, July 27. Throughout the week leading up to the close of Summer Reading, kids will enjoy a magic show, teens will create mini canvas art and a family movie will be shown. All participants are invited to register for the summer finale lock-in taking place on July 26.
Kids should get ready for an unforgettable experience on Tuesday, July 23, with Kevin Wade’s “Adventurous Magic Show.” This interactive show is more than just tricks; it’s a magical journey filled with laughter, fun and learning. This show is best suited for children entering kindergarten through fifth grade and will take place at 10 a.m. and repeat at 2 p.m. The doors will close if capacity is reached. Participants attending should arrive at least 15 minutes early for the best chance to attend the program.
Elizabeth Murray, the children’s librarian, would like to remind the public that magic shows are always very popular and room capacity will be strictly enforced. Murray emphasizes that this program is not suitable for children not yet in kindergarten and asks that space remain open for children who are old enough to participate.
Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to join the OSU Museum of Art and the Prairie Arts Center (PAC) on Wednesday, July 24, at 2 p.m., for “Mini Canvas Art.” Teens will paint mini canvases using their own unique adventures as themes for their artwork. No registration, art background or skills are required to attend.
Note, the program will start at the OSU Museum of Art located at 720 S. Husband St. where teens will get a tour of the current collection before walking to PAC to create their own art.
Teen librarian Jordan Stine also wants to remind teens that their artwork and creations from the entirety of summer reading will be displayed at the museum.
“The OSU Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition for our teen summer readers on Saturday, July 27, from 2-4 p.m.,” Stine said. “Teens’ works from both the Mini Canvas Art program and earlier programs will be on display for families and the community to see.”
According to Stine the artwork will spend one week at the museum and then rotate to PAC for a week before traveling to the library. Teens will have from Aug. 14-21 to pick up their mini canvas art from the library.
On Thursday, July 25, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., families are invited to attend the final "Summer Cinema." This week’s PG-rated film (102 minutes) is about a teenage girl who gets shrunk to a tiny size and befriends a group of diminutive people known as the Leaf Men, who are fighting to defend their forest from evil creatures. An adult must supervise children during the movie and all attendees will receive one bag of popcorn.
To celebrate the end of summer reading, the Stillwater Public Library is hosting a lock-in party on Friday, July 26, from 7-11 p.m. This event is open to all SPL “Adventure at Your Library” summer reading participants. There will be board games, video games, a movie and of course reading. A slice of pizza and a drink will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the Library. Space is limited to 200 attendees and registration is required. Sign up all family members planning to attend at tinyurl.com/SPLLockInFinale.
